  At the outbreak of World War I, Albert's horse Joey is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France, where fate decrees he spends time serving on both sides before ending up in no man's land. Joey looms large in Albert's mind and, not old enough to enlist, Albert sets off on a treacherous mission to bring him home.
